We Insist!

The Fresh Cut Orchestra is revisiting Max Roach's We Insist! Freedom Now recording and taking his music and the message on the road.
The suite was composed by Roach in 1960 for a performance featuring Abbey Lincoln on the centennial of the Emancipation Proclamation at the height of the Civil Rights Movement.

60 years later Max Roach’s We Insist! gets a powerful new rendition from Philadelphia's Fresh Cut Orchestra.
​
Joining drummer Anwar Marshall, trumpeter Josh Lawrence, and bassist Jason Fraticelli are guitarist/electro wizard Tim Conley, saxophonist Stacy Dillard, percussionist Arturo Stable, and singer-songwriter/flautist Melanie Charles.

This project was commissioned by Jeff Arnal of Black Mountain College Museum + Art Center and supported by the state of North Carolina.
